Ghostbusters has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. The original two movies were staples of my childhood, as were the toys. I remember scanning new houses for ghosts with my brother when we would move, and my wife loves to recount how my family could quote the whole movie in casual conversation. Building a proton pack felt like it was inevitable, which led to meeting some like-minded fans and starting Charm City Ghostbusters.

It’s a toss-up between Ray Stantz, because I love his sense of amazement and wonder at everything the Ghostbusters do. He always seems excited by everything that’s going on. Then also Peter Venkman, because of the sarcasm and dry humor.

I love the paranormal/lore aspects of things like Tobin’s Spirit Guide, combined with the scientific aspects based in a sense of reality. Then you wrap all that up with the comedy of the film, I think it makes for a great movie!

It’s a completely bogus idea of guys busting ghosts, but you feel like it could be real. The gear in the movie looks realistic and not some completely and absurd prop. The car is completely awesome, and the scene leaving the firehouse is one of the best. It is a fun movie from start to finish.

No favorite though I lean towards Winston. He’s just a funny, humble guy who was looking for a paycheck and ended up being the grounded, down-to-earth presence the team needed. He doesn’t get caught up in the craziness but still dives into the weirdness headfirst, and that mix of practicality and humor makes him so relatable.

It’s a fun and imaginative story with a perfect cast. The mix of silliness and supernatural elements is magic—it’s hilarious, thrilling, and never takes itself too seriously. Winston Zeddemore; begins his story arc as an average guy who’s just looking for a job. He’s not a scientist, so he provides the everyday person’s perspective. He then finds himself in a universe of things he didn’t know existed. One of his best quotes is, “If there’s a steady paycheck in it, I’ll believe anything you say.” Winston then goes on to find a new family, smoke a few cigarettes, and save the world. And that’s just the first movie.

Phoebe! I think she’s a great addition to the roster in the new movies. In Afterlife, she rolls with the punches as her understanding of the world shifts; both from a scientific standpoint and as she learns about her family’s history. Her connection to the Spengler heritage gives her a calling that I hope we will see evolve.
Favorite Quote:
So many but if I have to pick one that I use on the regular “Everything you are doing is bad, I want you to know this.” The delivery in GB2 is so funny, and instantly makes Janosh so quotable.
Why Ghostbusters?
I watched (jokingly you could read that as, “was traumatized by”) the original movie at a young age. The ghosts were scary, but there was a way to fight back, if you were brave and owned an unlicensed nuclear accelerator. Growing up and rewatching the movies over the years, there is always a new detail or a joke that hits differently, making it a fun franchise to revisit over and over. With the new movies/shows revitalizing interest and bringing fun props to the market, the time was perfect to finally get in on the action. Just like the arrival of the Titanic in GB2, “Better late then never!”

We lost David August 13, 2018 when he succumbed and took his life.
He was a soulmate, musician, a loyal friend, loving brother, a mystical storyteller, a magician, and the most compassionate person you could ever meet. David was handsome, a kind soul, a smart wit, a supporter of women’s rights, and an ally to equal rights. He was creative, charming, thoughtful and supportive. David loved to cosplay. He was Han Solo, a Ghostbuster, Doctor Who, and Indiana Jones. He loved animals (the vulture was his favorite bird), Silvia Plath, sharks, Salem, nerf gun battles, a pop of bubbly, and enthralling conversations. Not a day goes by that we don’t think of David. He is loved and missed by so many.
We hope that the word spreads that there are resources available for those who struggle, so that we never have to lose a David again. There is a light through all the dark. You are not alone.
